That time I broke my leg in Rajshahi.

In early 2024, I was preparing for public university entrance exams. I had my sights set on Rajshahi University, so I had to go to Rajshahi to take the exam. I went there by train with one of my favorite cousins, who was also sitting for the exam. Our exam was scheduled for March 4th, so we decided to head to Rajshahi on the afternoon of March 3rd.

As planned, we arrived at the railway station by 2 pm. Our train was supposed to depart at 2:30 pm, but when we got there, the train was nowhere in sight. We asked the counter about the arrival time, but they couldn’t give us an exact answer. Disappointed, we decided to wait it out. In the meantime, we grabbed some food from the station. Finally, the train arrived at 4 pm. We rushed to board, but the carriage gate was so crowded that we couldn’t get in. So, I quickly came up with a plan. I passed my bag and helped my cousin climb through the window to save seats for us. Then I managed to get on board, and after half an hour, the train finally left the station.

We reached Rajshahi at 12:45 am and stayed the night at a friend’s place. The next morning, I woke up shivering. Although it was summer, the weather in Rajshahi felt unexpectedly cold. I did a quick revision of some chapters and left for the exam at 11 am. I finished the exam by 1 pm and met up with my cousin. Since the campus was huge, we spent some time exploring it.

Around 3:45 pm, we met up with our friends and decided to play football on the playground, which I came to regret later. I started off as the goalkeeper, but later switched to defense. I was getting into the game. We scored 2 goals, but the other team had 3. During the final moments of the game, I ran towards the ball. Suddenly, I stepped on an uneven surface with my right leg, heard a cracking sound, and fell down. I stood up and checked my right foot—no visible injuries, no bumps or scratches. I decided to run again, but as soon as I put weight on my right foot, the pain became unbearable. I had to stop. After 10 minutes, my right foot swelled up, and I couldn’t move it at all. The ankle had become really puffy.

My friends rushed me to the hospital. The doctor treated me and prescribed some medication. I had to rest in bed for two days before I could move my leg. I had initially planned to visit places like T-BAD and the zoo with my friends, but I thought I wouldn’t be able to go. However, my friends made sure I went with them, even with my injured leg. We had a good time together, and eventually, I was able to walk again. That night, I took a bus back to Dhaka.

The journey didn’t go as I had planned, but it was still an experience I’ll never forget.
